The Philadelphia 76ers recently swapped their number 10 pick for the Orlando Magic’s number 12 selection in a trade deal that was announced during the first round of the 2014 NBA draft, which was held June 26th. Under the deal, the Sixers traded the rights to Elfrid Payton of Louisiana-Lafayette for Croatia’s Dario Saric, a 20-year-old forward who averaged 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game during the 2013-14 season with Cibona of the European Adriatic League.
Saric could prove to be a powerful force in the Sixers’ future lineup, but the organization may have to wait to see the benefits of his talents. Credible sources have reported that Saric just signed a deal with Anadolu Efes of the Turkish Basketball League that could keep him in Europe for the next few seasons. However, the Sixers seem to feel that Saric is worth the wait, and one or two more years in the Euroleague will only make him a stronger asset in the future.
